Baqueira Beret has closed its third best season in the decade
The ski resorts of Val d’Aran and Valls d’Àneu have finshed the 2018-19 ski season. This season which started on December 1st has registered very positive affluency with 876.000 skier-days and a season of 143 days
With 876.008 skier days, Baqueira Beret had the third best ski season in this decade.
The station started with the long weekend in December with 20,000 skiers from Thursday 7th to Sunday 9th and with conditions getting better during that week which allowed to open 40 skiable km. During the Christmas holidays, the resort of Baqueira Beret had 85 km of open trails and lots of family, sport and après-ski activities with DJs on the pistes and a torch-lights parade on Christmas Eve.
After a November and December unusually dry, the arrival of the snow in January was well received, ensuring the rest of the season for snow and the total opening of the ski resort. February was atypical as it was one of the February’s with more sunny days in memory. It also had a big arrival of skiers and snowboardings having 100% occupancy and making it the strongest month of the ski season.
During the Easter Week, from April 13 to 22, the ski resort of Baqueira Beret received 48,000 skiers that could enjoy the 112 km of open trails with depths between 85 and 165 cm of snow, and access the four sectors of the ski resort of Baqueira, Beret (with the exception of TS (Surface lift) Dossau and TSD (double chairlift) Blanhiblar), Bonaigua and Baciver.
The season’s data
The 2018-19 ski season has accounted for a total of 33 days with snowfalls, with depths of 95 cm as an average, and the accumulated depth of 5.44 meters. The mínimum temperature registered was of -11.7ºC
The most popular ski area is still Baqueira which gathers 51% of the skiers in the resort, followed by Beret, with 27.1% of the visitors, and Bonaigua with 19.1% of skiers. Finally, the área to be discovered by many is the one of Baciver. It is a new smaller área that only has two lifts, and that has been created this past season, using the highest elevation of the mountain of 2,610m. With this latest área incorporation, the ski resort offered five new red trails making it to 165 km of pistes (160 km of marked pistes and 5 km of itineraries)
The 36 lifts of the ski resort have carried 10,422.419 skiers and the middle vertical drop of each lift is of 4.289 m. The average number of trips in lifts per skier is of 11,68.
Spectacular World Cup FIS of Snowboard Cross.
This past March, Baqueira Beret had for the second time the FIS World Cup of Snowboard Cross (the first time they’ve hosted it was in 2016). The competition had the best international and domestic snowboarders of the RFEDI, as Regino Hernández, who was Olympic Bronze in PyeongChang’18, and Lucas Eguibar, World Cup Silver medal in Sierra Nevada ’17.
During this event there were 3,000 people cheering the competitors during the final. In the Blanhiblar area, they could enjoy the spectacle of competitors flying off 20 meters while tasting the traditional products of Val d’Aran in the Village, known as the Olla Aranesa. This event was televised internationally.
